Land Ho'
We found property. 10! acres and in Utah even. Much cheaper than Oregon, all around including the well. Since it is closer it will allow us to visit the property and plan and build things as we go as we save up to move there permanently. The view below is from the south edge of the property from the southeastern most corner. The property edged right up toe a rather deep canyon that is about 300 feet down to the bottom. Wells in the area are getting about 15gpm at 520 ft so we will be looking at about 12k for the well, and to bring power to the back of the property will be about 2k.
Now we have a goal a tangible place we can call our own. Its exciting and terrifying all at the same time.

so it's been a while
Life seems to find interesting things to do to you when you think you have a plan.
Finances have taken a turn for the worse. Or have they? The debt was there I knew it had to be taken care of well now I am being forced to do so due to a garnishment. Now I could throw my hands in the air and be all woe is me but, what will that accomplish? Not a lot really. So we will pay this bill off in about four months. Then we will have an extra 1400 a month to apply to the remaining debt and after going that long without it shouldn't be too much of a chore to continue for a little while. The state of the economy is kinda scary and I really don't know how much time we really do have before things start to go south. But my hands are kind of tied at the moment. I am looking at savings in gold though to ensure the continued worth of what we are putting away for our future and part of that 1400 will be socked away in that type of investment.
Oregon is still the best option that I have found as far as land is concerned. I do admit that I have not looked at to many other locations so I will continue to focus on that direction. There are still many many options as far as property. My biggest concern is the well. It will be a large expense and it is a hard pill to swallow that we have to come up with prior to moving there.
I am still confident that we can still go within three years. I am hoping to go visit the Klamath area in the spring take the whole family and make a long weekend of it to really see if this is where we want to live.

okay I have been kinda busy
So first off great article and awesome things to keep in mind for when we are there. http://www.motherearthnews.com/Modern-Homesteading/Homesteading-Lessons-And-Advice.aspx
Jen and I went to Idaho over the Labor Day weekend and on the way home we looked at a number of different properties in NW Utah. These places I have been looking at for years and it was good to see them in person because it was very apparent that they would not work. Maybe as a last resort but Oregon is much more attractive at this point.
